Audio Data Visualization Comic using Matplotlib & Librosa
2024

Using Pythin, Librosa, and Matplotlib, I created a comic based on the song "Space Oddity" by David Bowie. The background seen in the comic is a "spectrogram," also known as a graph of the spectrum of frequencies of the sound wave as it varies over time. I explored other graphs such as chromafeature and harmonic/percussive graphs, but really felt drawn to the spectrogram.

To use these graphs as backgrounds, I arranged them on a page, noting the sections pitches with the highest frequencies. Using an acrylic paint marker, I further emphasized them to draw attention or placed key elements in those sections. The comic was entirely drawn around the graphs.
